Story

After years of struggling with the tedious process of screening antibodies for western blots in the early 2000s, Tony Pomicter realized the field desperately needed improvement. When he shifted from neurobiology to hematology in 2011, he found the high level of validation in flow cytometry to be a welcome change, but challenges persisted. To tackle these issues, Tony developed in-house tools to organize antibody and clone data, as well as to compare prices and suppliers. However, these solutions couldn't scale beyond a single lab or project. In 2024, after encountering the frustrating experience of not being able to find the optimal titration for CD20 on human PBMC, one of the simplest tasks in the field, Tony envisioned a better way to organize and share titration data. He shared this concept with the University of Utah Research Foundation, which issued an Invention Return License. With a clear vision, Tony reached out to Richard McShinsky with an email titled “Let's start a company,” and together they launched Metrdy, a platform designed to provide the scientific community with accessible antibody usage data.
