Community reports

A community report tells other labs how a TiterPubs dataset's titer worked for you. It is not a comment box: you send us a short form, we review it against the rules below, and we add it under the dataset exactly as you wrote it, signed with your name.

  1. 1Download the form

    Report form v1 (.xlsx)

  2. 2Fill it in

The dataset ID, what worked for you, what differed, and a note of up to 1,500 characters.

  3. 3Send it

Upload it on the TiterPubs Contribute tab (no account needed) or email it to us.

What a report is

One person's first-hand account of using a dataset's titer. It answers one question:

Compared with the dataset’s titer, what worked for me: about the same / higher / lower / nothing worked / inconclusive.

It also says what differed from the dataset (cells, instrument, fixation, staining volume, incubation time / temperature, lot, other), because a titer holds only for the conditions it was run under. The dataset page shows how many reports chose each answer, never a score or a verdict.

What we publish

Your name and affiliation (and your ORCID, if you give one), any connection you declare, the date, your answers and your note, exactly as written.

Your email is never published. We use it only to follow up on your report.

The rules

  • Critique the data, not the person. No guesses about motives.
  • First-hand only: report what you did and what you saw.
  • Say what differed from the dataset: cells, instrument, fixation, volume, time, temperature, lot.
  • No personal attacks.
  • No confidential, patient or donor data, and no one else's contact details.
  • Text only. No links except DOIs.
  • No promotion. Declare any connection on the form (it is published with your report): vendor employee, co-author of the dataset, the contributor's lab or core, or Metrdy staff.
  • Concerns about misconduct go to us privately, not into a report.

How we review

We check every report against these rules, not against its science. Whether a titer worked for you is your finding, not ours.

We never edit a report. We post it as written or decline it and tell you why, so you can send it again without the problem.

The contributor's right of response

We tell the dataset's contributor when a report on their dataset appears. They may respond, and we post their response under the report, as written and labelled as theirs.

Withdrawals and removal

You can withdraw your own report at any time.

Contributors and anyone else can ask us to remove a report. We decide against these rules, and we may remove a report that breaks them. An accurate first-hand report is not removed just because it is negative.

Corrections

If reports reveal an error in a dataset, we contact the contributor and publish a dated correction on the dataset and its DOI record. The reports stay, with their dates.
